The Group

Proterm began its operations in 1947 with the trade of products for heat treatments. Since 1973, it has been based in its current headquarters in Calderara di Reno, where it started offering heat treatment services for third parties. Since the early 1980s, Proterm has distinguished itself as the first company to offer surface hardening treatments and preliminary treatments for raw material from hot forging, using continuous automated roller furnaces. This significant and forward-thinking step, ahead of the competition, was made possible by acquiring the former Siderit plant in Zola Predosa.
In the following years, Proterm expanded and strengthened its range of services by installing automatic furnace lines equipped with the most modern process controls. Alongside organic growth, the company made significant investments in Italian companies, acquiring the former SITFA plant in Bologna in 1991, the former SET plant in Reggio Emilia in 1994, and the former General Tempering plant in Pesaro in 1999.
In 2008, Proterm began constructing a new facility in Castello D’Argile, dedicated entirely to preliminary treatments, establishing itself as a leader in the country for annual treatment quantities.
In 2019, Cullati Trattamenti Termici of Turin joined Proterm. This expanded the Group’s presence across much of the national territory, with seven plants located in Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Pesaro, and Turin.
In 2020, Proterm inaugurated a new 1,500 square meter department dedicated to vacuum treatments and ion nitriding at the former SITFA plant in Bologna. The facility features modern equipment with innovative control and cooling systems. These thermal treatments enable Proterm to enter the industrial component market for automatic machines, tools for hot and cold working, plastic molding, racing, and more.
